  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

For the Wontons

  • 24 store-bought wonton wrappers
  • Water (for sealing the wontons)

For the Soup Broth

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 1-inch piece ginger, sliced
  • 1 small bok choy, chopped (optional)
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Additional chopped green onions
  • A few drops of chili oil (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Wonton Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 2: Assemble the Wontons

  1. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface.
  2. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper.
  3. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Alternatively, bring the corners together and pinch them to seal in your desired wonton shape.
  5. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 3: Prepare the Soup Broth

  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken broth, water, soy sauce, sesame oil, smashed garlic, and sliced ginger.
  2. Bring the broth to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Add the optional bok choy and carrot slices, if using.
  4. Let the broth simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4: Cook the Wontons

  1. Carefully drop the prepared wontons into the simmering broth.
  2. Allow them to cook for about 4–5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and the filling is fully cooked.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring an even distribution of wontons and vegetables.
  2. Garnish with additional chopped green onions and a few drops of chili oil if desired.
  3. Serve hot.

Kitchen Tips

  • For a spicier broth, add a slice of red chili during simmering.
  • Ensure the broth simmers gently rather than boils vigorously to keep the delicate wontons intact.
  • Uncooked wontons can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one day or frozen for longer storage.
