For the Soup Broth

- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, smashed
- 1-inch piece ginger, sliced
- 1 small bok choy, chopped (optional)
- 1 carrot, thinly sliced (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish
- Additional chopped green onions
- A few drops of chili oil (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Wonton Filling
- In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
Step 2: Assemble the Wontons
- Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper.
- Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
- Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Alternatively, bring the corners together and pinch them to seal in your desired wonton shape.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
Step 3: Prepare the Soup Broth
- In a large pot, combine the chicken broth, water, soy sauce, sesame oil, smashed garlic, and sliced ginger.
- Bring the broth to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the optional bok choy and carrot slices, if using.
- Let the broth simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 4: Cook the Wontons
- Carefully drop the prepared wontons into the simmering broth.
- Allow them to cook for about 4–5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and the filling is fully cooked.
Step 5: Serve
- Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring an even distribution of wontons and vegetables.
- Garnish with additional chopped green onions and a few drops of chili oil if desired.
- Serve hot.
Kitchen Tips
- For a spicier broth, add a slice of red chili during simmering.
- Ensure the broth simmers gently rather than boils vigorously to keep the delicate wontons intact.
- Uncooked wontons can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one day or frozen for longer storage.
