Ingredients

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or challah works best)
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

For the Vanilla Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Bread Pudding

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Spread cubed bread evenly in the prepared dish. Sprinkle raisins over the bread, if using.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.

Prepare the Vanilla Sauce

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Serve

  1. Allow bread pudding to cool slightly. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of vanilla sauce over each slice.
