Ingredients
For the Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or challah works best)
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
For the Vanilla Sauce:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the Bread Pudding
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Spread cubed bread evenly in the prepared dish. Sprinkle raisins over the bread, if using.
- In a large bowl, whisk together milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
Prepare the Vanilla Sauce
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Serve
- Allow bread pudding to cool slightly. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of vanilla sauce over each slice.
